"Hilltop Grave"
It's cold and windy, even though the sun
is as bright as it's ever been. There is not a clud in the sky,
there hasn't been any cluds for years now. I am standing over
Joseph's grave. They let us bury him here on the hill overlooking
the carrot field. They didn't care, they thought the corpse would
help fertalize the ground. Josef died bravely enough. He was a
fool, he wouldn't listen. Everyone knew the saying, but he ignored
it. Now he's dead! We don't get to visit him
much, only when break-time permits and it's not too cold. Joseph's sister
is here too. She visits more than anyone. She only cried the
first time. She's much stronger now.
They crack thier
whips. Break-time is over. It's time to go back to laboring
the carrot fields. Everyone begins to file past them. They
look down at us with thier beady eyes. Thier long ears pushed back
under thier helmets. Joseph ignored it, but everyone else knows the
saying, "Don't Anger the Bunnies"...."Don't Anger the
Bunnies!"
